A New Hooch In Town…
P-Line is well known for the quality of its monofilament, fluorocarbon and braided fishing lines. However, some fishermen also have discovered that P-Line makes lures.
One of the company’s focuses is on lures for kokanee, and as a result, it brought out the Kokanator jigging spoon and the Reaction Squid, a hoochie rigged on a double-hook leader.
I’ve used the Reaction Squid with good success, but it’s not a lure to be fished alone. It works best behind a trout-sized dodger or with a spinner blade behind an in-line flasher.
There are times, though, when that much action is a turn off for fish. There are times when something as simple as a single fly or small spoon is about the only thing a trout or kokanee will hit.
That’s why the new Geisha Squid is so intriguing. It’s built around a 2 1/2-inch hoochie body—the standard squid shape. But, and it’s worth taking a pause to reflect, it is unlike any other hoochie on the market.
The Geisha’s head is the difference: there are two “scales” on the head that make the skirt move and pulsate when trolled, so no dodger or blade is needed to make the Geisha attractive. She’s got all the moves she needs.
These scales have an iridescent translucence; they also are concave and fit close to the head on each side of the squid body. But loose-fitting plastic ties join them to the body, and to each other so that when trolled, the scales can move and flex, imparting that movement to the body.
The Geishas don’t come rigged, but instructions say that they are suited to a two-hook leader of #4 Octopus hooks tied on 8- to 10-pound-test leader.
There are 12 colors available, and that includes five glow finishes. All Geishas are UV-enhanced.
